“I’d rather be the corny white rapper than the drugged-out mess who can’t even get out of his house. Overdosing is just not cool. You don’t go down in history because you overdose. You just die.”

He went down in history for just that. These were the words spoken by Mac Miller, months later he dies from a drug overdose. Last year there were over 72,000 deaths due to drug abuse. Just imagine how many people that is. Imagine the last big event you went to and all the people in the room. That’s just a fraction of 72,000.

Take a step back. Look around. How many people do you know, that are in this self-denial phase? Too many times do I hear people say similar words that Mac did, while in the battle of some addiction. When you hear them say it, it makes no sense because their words DONOT reflect their actions.

Yet as humans, we brush it off, let them do another drug, take another drink, ANYTHINGthat takes those words out of theirs and our memory. Relieving the pain with something that will boost our dopamine and move us on from the moment.

We all have ONE chance in this life to make a difference yet we constantly push back from it. Society will judge us! People will dislike me! All these fears that are opportunities for us to be that LIGHT in this crazy world.

There is one simple way to fix this: COURAGE.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where standing up for what you believe in is looked down upon. Not just that, but those who think drugs are horrible and are gateways to other horrific drugs are laughed at and ridiculed.

Well let me tell you this, the death of a human being is no laughing matter, and we just lost one. Not just one, but a talented and loving individual: “He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends, and fans,” his family and friends wrote in a statement.

We have lost yet another one of our own, to drugs.

Would you have taken a stand if you knew it would have saved your best friends life? Or any life?

So I am asking one simple thing from you all.

Find one person you know who is struggling with an addiction. Whether it be drugs, alcohol, food etc…. and have the courage to approach them and HELP them. SHOW them you CARE and LOVE them by SPEAKING out to them. Be PROACTIVE and maybe just maybe, you will change their life forever.
