Get Creative!

Summer is almost gone and boy am I going to miss it. Although my blogging life has been on a brief pause, my life has not and neither has my job. Super exciting stuff going on so keep following the journey! Today I would like to cover a unique topic: Creativity in selling.

What does this mean? How can we do it? Is it crucial to our sales career?

YES.

When it comes to any sales job there is always one thing in common: the process. What are the steps taken to perform the sale or to acquire the new business. Sounds easy enough right? Do this process or blueprint and it should always sell?? WRONG. If only sales were that easy.

There are many types of salespeople out there and the top ones use something different. They use a tool that makes the difference.

CREATIVITY.

This is the secret sauce to all sales gurus. A process can only do so much, it helps create a balance and makes an outline for the betterment of the company. However, creativity cannot be written on paper. Creativity is all in our mind, and is created “on the fly“. Sales creativity is not an elusive quality. It’s not for the few with natural talent- we all have it. It follows a CLEAR approach to get results.

They did a survey with the President of Xerox services which asked: “Is creativity a crucial part of your sales reps success.” In the reply, he stated: ” In almost every case, our most successful sellers are the most creative. We get the occasional few who are in the right place and the right time. However, those who deliver quarter after quarter, are the creative thinkers, who put themselves in the client’s situation and execute sales.” Innovation is key to any sales job.

If creativity is so crucial to the success we need to learn to do it. The question is how though. Here are a few things that will help and what I have learned from my own personal experience. Firstly, be yourself. The only way one can be creative is by opening their mind completely to what is around them and by being who they really are. Secondly, I want you to find something you are passionate about, and incorporate that passion into what you are selling. This will help you sound more excited and it will spark your “imagination” and create examples which people engage in. Lastly, be open to listening to what other top reps do and how they do it. If surveys show creativity is what creates the TOP TIER we should be learning from their example they set. Ask them questions and pick their brains dry.

Creativity is an absolute must in sales and in order to be successful WE MUST HAVE IT. So hope on the creativity train and let us all strive to be more elaborate and descriptive in our next sales encounter. Just when you think it’s time to give up think to yourself: “Is there anything else I can do to sell this? What have I not tried.”

Hope this was helpful. Happy selling and most importantly happy summer to everyone!
