How to Stick to Your Plan, When Times Are Hard

It was three months into my new job and I started to have doubts. I doubted I could be successful. I doubted my decision I made. Doubt was my every thought.

We have all been in this situation. We have a plan and are excited about it, then we make the switch and realize it wasn’t as easy as we thought. Don’t let the trials and difficulties steer you away though!

Follow your plan and stick with it. Whether is it a new job, new career, new degree choice. Stick with it.

You see what can happen and what typically happens, is when the going gets tough we start to think of the previous situation and all the pros. We start to think of how good we had it, and why we even decided to make this change! What we fail to think about is the reasons why we left or made the change though. We look at the negatives in the present and compare them to the very few positives in the past (think of it like going back to an ex, and thinking of the honeymoon moments, and not realizing why you actually broke up).

Following a new plan or path will never be easy! It will be hard, because it is something new to us. So the key is understanding that it is going to be difficult and not letting the ‘speedbumps’ getting to us.

So, what can we do to help us STICK with this plan?

1. Write WHY you are attempting this new plan in the first place

2. Write the CONS of where you are currently at

3. Write the PROS and benefits of this new path and where it will take you

If we have this written down and in front of us, when the going gets tough we simply can refer to this piece. It will help us see the WHY and help us not doubt ourselves.

There will always be tough times in life my friends, but never so tough that we can’t conquer them.

Fight the speed-bumps. Fight the trials. Fight the good fight.
