Life Is Too Short

Dedicated to my friend and “brother in arms”: Michael Giannattasio.

Days ago, an alumnus of my high school passed away in a Recon Training for the Marines. I heard the horrible news in the morning as I headed to work.

I was speechless…

Michael, was just over 20 years old and had so much more life to live. He was a guy who gave it 150% and always worked so hard at everything he did in school and life.

Why him? Why not me? So many questions I asked myself as I drove. The pain that I imagined for his family and all his close relatives was not even possible to grasp. A member of our “LaSalette” family was gone.

This made me start to think and REALLY ponder: None of us know when we will die. It could be any of us at any time in the next moments and even seconds. Have we lived life to the fullest? Have we given it our all? From what I know, I can say that Michael did in EVERY aspect of the word.

The fact of the matter is that we all live under the impression that we will live to be old. We will live to see the next day. Live to see our loved ones again and again. I myself fall under this category SO very often, we take things for granted since we are given so much.

COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE…

The “motto” we learned to live by at our Academy. Everyday pursuing the ultimate end and using every mean we could to attain it. Are we all living like it is our last day? (I know I fail to do so and I must try harder not too). If not we are going wrong somewhere….

A death of a loved one, a family member, or a friend is never easy to handle for anyone. We will miss Michael and the good he brought to this world. What we can all learn from this is: WE NEVER KNOW OUR TIME and that is why we must live everyday like it is our last.

Let us all focus on what we can do to achieve our final end. Know that everything we do, whether good or bad effects someone around us. We can all work together to “commit to this excellence” and reach our final end….

Commit. Work hard. Know our end.

And to you Michael I say…..

You were a great example to not only me, but all who knew you. Your hard work ethic and dedication was truly admirable. Rest in peace my friend. Contra Hostes Tuos!
