Smile more – but with good reason!
In a recent study led by a Michigan State University business scholar, customer-service workers who faked a smile made their moods worse and wanted to withdraw from work. However, when workers smiled because of positive thoughts- like about a tropical vacation or a child’s recital- they felt genuinely happier.
I think a lot of times we find ourselves dreading the next work day or dreading that horrible Monday morning wake-up. But why? Shouldn’t we be happy and feel blessed? YES, we should but unfortunately, we do not.
The thing is we need to find the things that make us happy. Take a step back to see what we are happy for and smile with a genuine smile that will light up someone’s world. Think about a time that you made someone’s day or gave a child a birthday gift. Remember the smile they had? It’s unforgettable! That is what we are aiming for in ourselves.
So, the ask is simple.
What are some Smile Inducers you can give yourself? Write them down. Set them as a reminder on your phone. Do whatever it takes to make you remember why you should smile and be happy. A true smile based on positive thoughts is a powerful thing.
I don’t know about you, but I love being surrounded by people who are positive and have happy thoughts. People that are smiling and excited to conquer the day. Those are my type of people. Those are who I wish to grow with and help the world become a better place.
So, smile. A real smile. Be positive and grateful. Share your smile with those around you.
